Vehicle runs over biker, police yet to identify driver

PUNE: A motorcycle rider was killed on Saturday night after a vehicle ran him over on Hadapsar-Mundhwa rail overbridge. Police are yet to identify it and its driver, on the run.


The Mundhwa police identified the deceased as Santosh Dnyandeo Survase (30) from Shinde Vasti in

Hadapsar

. The police on Sunday booked the vehicle driver for causing the death of Survase due to negligence under the relevant sections of the

Indian Penal Code

and Motor Vehicles Act.

Sub-inspector Swapnil Patil of the Mundhwa police said, “Survase was on his way home at Mundhwa when the driver of an unidentified vehicle lost control over the vehicle and hit the bike from the rear. The vehicle ran over the victim. A police patrol rushed to the spot after receiving information about the accident from the city police control room.”

“A critically injured Survase was rushed to Sassoon General Hospital in a tempo, but the doctors declared him dead on arrival,” Patil said. After post-mortem, the victim’s body was handed over to his family for funeral. The post-mortem report is awaited.

Patil said the vehicle driver sped away without informing the police about the accident. The identity of the killer vehicle is not known but preliminary investigations based on big tyre marks and details from witnesses indicated that a truck was involved in the accident.

On the progress of investigations, senior inspector Sampat Bhosale, the Mundhwa police station in-charge, said, “We are checking CCTV footage at various places to identify the vehicle for arresting the driver at the earliest.”

The victim, Survase, was as a supervisor in a Kharadi-based private firm. He stayed with his wife and brother.
