PUNE: Kargil Vijay Diwas ceremony will be observed on Tuesday at the National War Memorial, Southern Command.
It was on this day in 1999 that the Indian Armed Forces, as part of Operation Vijay, recaptured Indian posts in Kargil which had been occupied by Pakistan's army. Since then, this day has been observed annually to commemorate the sacrifices made by soldiers in this war.
The ceremony will be attended by all military personnel of Pune station. Tribute will be paid to the martyrs of the Kargil War at the National War Memorial. A commemorative wreath will be laid at 9am by Lt Gen Bipin Rawat, GOC-in-C Southern Command, Pune on behalf of all ranks of the headquarters Southern Command.
The war memorial will remain open for citizens to pay homage to Kargil martyrs from 9am till 8pm.
