State govt gives revised approval for Kharadi-Swargate-Khadakwasla & Nal Stop-Warje Metro lines
Pune: The Maharashtra govt on Tuesday granted revised approval for Kharadi-Swargate-Khadakwasla and Nal Stop-Warje Metro lines in accordance with earlier clearances from the Union govt. The project, spanning 31.6 km, will feature 28 elevated stations. The total cost of both the lines will be Rs 9857.85 crore, with both the Union and state govt contributing Rs 1,212 crore each. The state issued a Government Resolution (GR) authorising a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Maha Metro, the state, and the Union govt.
The Union govt approved both the routes in Nov 2025. Following that nod, the proposal was referred back to the state for a revised administrative approval. In the GR issued on Tuesday, the govt said that Maha Metro will execute both the routes. It will also work out a plan for the Rs 4694 crore loan component from funding agencies. These lines are considered vital for the city's infrastructure, as they provide high-speed connectivity to high-traffic areas including Sinhagad Road, Nagar Road, Solapur Road, and parts of Hadapsar. Officials from Maha Metro said that they have started preliminary works on both the lines. The broader alignments of both the lines were decided while preparing the detailed project report (DPR). Maha Metro is now working on minor details, which include probable locations of the stations, ramps at stations, and minor details pertaining to the alignments. The tendering process to appoint execution agencies will start in the next few months. As per the estimations, the cost of alignment and formation is around Rs1,694 crore. The expenses for construction of the stations on both routes will be around Rs1,300 crore, and expenses for traction and power supply, signalling and telecommunication are pegged at around Rs890 crore. Regular commuters in areas of Sinhagad Road, Solapur Road, and Nagar Road want PMC and Metro authorities to expedite the project and finish it within a deadline of five years.
