Fundamental Quiz 2017-18, held on Tuesday, St Mary’s School grabbed the winner’s trophy while The Bishop’s School, Camp, and SPM English School stood first and second runners-up.

Representatives from 61 schools participated in the event held at Balgandharva auditorium. After the preliminary rounds, six teams were chosen.

GG International School, Ryan International School, and Sungrace High School were given consolation prizes for standing in fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.

Apart from questions that tested both memory power and quick thinking, there were moments when the entire auditorium erupted in laughter. For instance, when quiz master Sudarshan Mahajan, communication expert and founder, Gofigito Educorp, asked teachers and parents about the river that spends its maximum length in the Indian territory. After a series of wrong answers, the students were unable to hold back their elation since they knew the right answer ‘Ganga’.

The chief guest of the event was Saurabh Gadgil, chairman and managing director, PN Gadgil Jewellers Pvt Ltd, while the guest of honour was Jitendra Chouksey, founder director of SQUATS. The event was sponsored by ICAD School of Learning with city centre head Piyush Jaiswal representing the institute. Other guests at the event included Shreyas Bangad, founder director of Brand Matterz and iEyeCapture and Beatboxer Parag Bhide.

Samiksha Deshpande (class IX), Ananya Krishnan (class VIII) and Saanvi Gupta (class VII) from St Mary’s School won with a margin of 40 marks and were particularly happy to beat the all-boys team from The Bishop’s School. “Last year, we stood second and they won the trophy, hence we are twice as happy that we could win this cup for our school,” said Samiksha.

Chouksey urged students to maintain a healthy lifestyle. “As kids, we play a lot that keeps us fit but, as we grow older, we forget the importance of right exercise and nutrition. Hence, the idea of exercise and nutrition should be imbibed as a child so that they can grow up to be healthy adults,” he said.

Gadgil congratulated the students and expressed wonder at the way they answered the questions. “These competitions get the best out of you. Keep reading,” he added.
