Pune: A private company official from Pimple Saudagar lost Rs 31 lakh to cybercrooks in an online share trading fraud in June last year. The victim filed an online complaint application. A case was registered with the Sangvi police on Monday.
The victim came into contact with the crooks through a social media platform. An officer from the Sangvi police said the crooks told the complainant that they worked for a wealth and asset management firm. They told him to download the company's app.

"When the victim checked the details of the company, he found that it was prominent. He decided to accept the offer and download the app," the officer said.
He said the crooks assured the victim of good returns on his investments in the stock market through their company. The private firm official then transferred money to the bank account numbers provided to him. "The victim could see in the app that he was earning well on his investments. The crooks also sent messages to him about the profit he earned," he said.
The officer said the victim realised that he was being duped when he was not able to withdraw his money. The crooks, citing different reasons, demanded more money from him for letting him withdraw the money. TNN
