Rs 1,866 crore push for Pune roads

64 km of new roads planned

The administration plans to build nearly 64 km of new roads this fiscal year. Along with construction, the civic body will carry out continuous maintenance of existing roads to improve surface quality and ensure smoother travel for motorists across Pune’s expanding urban network. (AI image)

Focus on arterial roads

Out of Pune’s 2,273 km road network, 32 arterial roads carry nearly 80% of city traffic. Authorities plan concentrated upgrades on these key routes through corridor improvement works to ease congestion and improve the efficiency of the busiest transport corridors. (AI image)

Junction upgrades to ease traffic

The civic body plans a junction improvement programme covering 30 major intersections. Better traffic signals, lane management and redesigned junction layouts are expected to reduce bottlenecks and improve traffic flow at some of Pune’s busiest crossings. (AI image)

Land acquisition for road expansion

Part of the increased budget will be used for acquiring land needed to complete roads and missing links. The administration plans to offer cash compensation for small plots so that projects can move ahead without major delays. (AI image)

Missing links to boost connectivity

Officials plan to develop 12 crucial missing road links that currently disrupt smooth traffic movement. Completing these links is expected to create better connectivity between neighbourhoods and reduce travel time on several routes. (AI image)

Flyovers, tunnels and grade separators

The draft budget includes major infrastructure projects such as flyovers, grade separators, road tunnels and pedestrian walkways. These developments aim to modernise Pune’s road network and tackle rising traffic pressure in the rapidly growing city. (AI image)
