PUNE: After the merger of 23 villages in

), the demand to divert the water from

Bhama Askhed

dam to these areas has started. The residents of the Wagholi villages have demanded water from this dam.

"The civic body will have to make sure that it provides water in the newly merged villages. The present water sources will have to be utilised for fulfilling the need. It includes diverting the water from Bhama Askhed to Wagholi. If the things work out, this diversion should take place, " said

As per PMC data, around 15 lakh population from eastern parts of the corporation areas will get water from Bhama Askhed dam. The areas like Dhanori, Wadgaonsheri,

Kalas

,

Kalyaninagar

and other areas on Ahmednagar road will get the water. Currently, around 8 lakh people are getting the benefit of this this project. It is being expanded to other areas and works to lay connecting lines and setting up water tanks are being carried out.

According to PMC officials, the work of Bhama Askhed was completed in November 2019. The testing of water supply pipeline was done in December 2019.

Approved in 2013 and started in 2014, the project was inaugurated on January 1, 2021.
