Pune man pours acid on wife’s private parts for failing to bear son, booked
PUNE: The Pune Rural police have registered a case against a 30-year-old man for allegedly assaulting his wife and causing grievous injuries to her private parts by pouring toilet-cleaning acid on her because she had not conceived a son.
The incident took place on April 20 in a village in Haveli taluka. Following the assault, the accused allegedly refused to take his wife for medical treatment and prevented her from visiting her parents’ home.
However, on May 9, the woman managed to escape to her parents’ house in Solapur taluka, where she narrated her ordeal. She subsequently approached the Pune Rural police on May 14. Following a medical examination, a formal case was registered against her husband on May 15.
The accused has been booked under sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 124 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by use of acid) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
An officer from Pune Rural police said the accused works as a welder at a fabrication unit in Haveli taluka. The couple has two daughters. The officer said the husband had allegedly been harassing his wife for not giving birth to a male child.
According to the victim’s statement, her husband began beating her on April 20 while accusing her of having an extramarital affair. He also abused her for giving birth to daughters instead of a son.
“The woman stated that the man then threatened to pour acid on her private parts. He fetched a bottle of toilet-cleaning acid and poured it on her, causing severe chemical burns. Despite her desperate pleas, he refused to take her to a hospital and threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed the incident to anyone,” the officer said.
He added that on May 9, while her husband was away at work, the woman fled the house with her two daughters and went to her parents’ home.
“We have registered a case against the accused. Further investigations are underway,” the officer said.
