PUNE: A French food festival named, French Bistro kicked off in the city on Thursday. The festival is organised by the Embassy of France in India in association with Indian Council for Cultural Relations and the Alliance Francaise network in India.
The four-day festival is taking place at Hyatt Regency as part of the French embassy's 'Bonjour India', a festival of France in India and will conclude on January 27.

A statement released by the French embassy, said that, Bonjour India would have eight events in Pune and will take place from January to March. The statement added that, French chef Stéphane Mathonneau, has specially come down to Pune for the festival. Mathonneau said, "I have tried to bring as many French classics as possible for this festival and there is a bit of Indian food included as well. I am working along with Indian chef Manav Kaul, but we have used Indian spices as aromatics more than flavours for the food as I wanted the French food to be as authentic as possible."
He and chef Manav will present fusion Indian and French dishes like Foie Gras terrine with ginger and apple chutney, Soupe de potiron au curry, ganny pie a traditional duck meat loaf.
Besides this, dishes such as crispy confit duck, sarladaises potatoes, which is a slow cooked duck dish that uses every single part of the duck, including the fat which is used to cook the potatoes, which is a delicacy from eastern France will be presented at the festival, the statement said.
