Pune hospital launches dedicated Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) clinic to strengthen neurological care

PUNE: In a significant step towards strengthening specialised neurological care, Jupiter Hospital, Baner has announced the launch of a dedicated Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) Clinic, aimed at improving early diagnosis, timely treatment, and long-term rehabilitation for patients affected by the condition. Guillain-Barré Syndrome is a rare but serious autoimmune neurological disorder in which the immune system mistakenly attacks the peripheral nerves, often leading to rapidly progressive weakness, paralysis, and, in severe cases, breathing difficulties. Neurologists stress that early recognition and prompt treatment play a crucial role in reducing complications and improving recovery outcomes.


Addressing the media, Dr Rajas Deshpande, Director, Neurology at Jupiter Hospital, said the new clinic fills a critical gap in structured GBS care. “GBS can progress rapidly, and even a short delay in diagnosis can significantly impact outcomes. By setting up a dedicated clinic, we are creating a streamlined pathway for early identification, immediate intervention, and close monitoring of patients by multiple specialties,” he explained.

Dr Shivraj Hunge, Director, Neurology, Jupiter Hospital, highlighted the importance of a multidisciplinary approach. “GBS management does not end with acute treatment. Many patients require intensive care support, respiratory monitoring, immunotherapy, and sustained rehabilitation.
