PUNE: An ex-serviceman opened fire at his son-in-law in Kharadi from his licensed, double-barrel gun following an altercation on Friday night.
The Chandannagar police arrested Sanjaykumar Satpute (44), a resident of Rajaram Patilnagar, Kharadi, under sections 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the Arms Act, 1959.
Police seized the double-barrel gun and 22 cartridges from him. His son-in-law, Ganesh Kamble, lodged a complaint against Satpute.
Police also arrested Kamble and five of his friends under the charges of unlawful assembly, said Anil Patrudkar, senior police inspector of the Chandannagar police station.
Patrudkar said that Kamble had recently got married to Satpute's daughter, against Satpute's wishes. On Friday night, Kamble and his friends were sitting on a bench along the road in Patilnagar.
"Around the same time, Satpute reached the spot and abused Kamble. He also picked up a stone and hurled it towards Kamble," Patrudkar said. Kamble sustained a minor injury on his forehead.
Kamble, his parents, and friends then went to Satpute's house to confront him. "Satpute went to the terrace of his house and fired one round from his gun to intimidate them," he said.
The officer added that Kamble then approached the police station and lodged a complaint against Satpute. "The court has sent Satpute to police custody until August 24," Patrudkar said. On the basis of another complaint, police also arrested Kamble, his friends Narayan Jadhav, Prasad Kamble, Santosh Kamble, Shailesh Katarnavare and Yogesh Kamble.
