Partial Opening Already Eased Traffic

The Aundh–Shivajinagar stretch of the flyover opened to vehicles in August last year, giving partial relief. Commuters experienced reduced congestion on one of Pune’s busiest corridors. Officials are now working to open the remaining ramps in stages to further ease traffic, promising a smoother commute for daily travellers.

2/10

SPPU Chowk Flyover Nears Completion

The integrated double-decker flyover at SPPU Chowk in Pune is almost ready, with 90% of construction complete. Only the remaining ramps are pending, which will open in phases. This project aims to provide lasting relief to commuters facing years of traffic snarls along University Chowk and Ganeshkhind Road.

3/10

Ramp Opening Schedule Announced

The Baner-side ramp is expected to open by the end of January, followed by the Pashan-side ramp by the end of February. Minor utility-related clearances remain, but the phased ramp openings are expected to gradually improve traffic flow along the University Chowk–Ganeshkhind corridor.

4/10

Complex Integrated Design Explained

The flyover is designed as a single structure integrating road traffic and the Metro corridor. Two-lane up-ramps from Aundh and Baner merge into a three-lane double-decker bridge shared with the Metro. Traffic from Shivajinagar towards Baner and Pashan uses a three-lane up-ramp splitting into two-lane down-ramps on either side.

5/10

Total Length and Structure

The entire flyover spans 1.7 km including ramps, with the Aundh–Shivajinagar stretch measuring 1.3 km. The design optimises traffic flow while accommodating Metro construction above. Officials say asphalt work on the Shivajinagar–Baner stretch is complete, and ramp construction is almost done, ensuring full connectivity soon.

6/10

Commuters Await Full Opening

Daily commuters say the flyover has helped but relief is partial. During peak hours, crossing University Chowk can still take 45 minutes. Residents emphasise the urgency of opening remaining ramps to ensure smoother travel, highlighting the importance of completing the project for western Pune’s busy arterial roads.

7/10

Expected Impact on Traffic

Once fully operational, the flyover is expected to significantly reduce congestion along Aundh–Shivajinagar and Shivajinagar–Baner corridors. Thousands of daily commuters from western Pune will benefit, with travel times expected to decrease dramatically. Residents are hopeful that the phased opening of ramps will provide immediate relief to traffic snarls.

8/10

Metro Line-3 Safety Milestone Cleared

Pune Metro Line-3, connecting Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar, has successfully passed safety inspection by the Research Designs & Standards Organisation (RDSO). This statutory certification confirms that the Metro meets all prescribed technical and safety standards, allowing the project to move closer to trial runs and eventual full-scale operations.

9/10

Metro Testing and Station Completion

Out of 22 planned Metro trainsets, 14 have already arrived for phased testing. Civil, systems, and finishing works across Metro stations are nearing completion, with most stations expected to be ready by March 31, 2026. This aligns with the integrated flyover project, ensuring seamless connectivity between road traffic and Metro services.

10/10

Utility Coordination Underway

All utility lines along the Pashan ramp have been relocated, allowing construction to progress. Officials noted minor pipeline-related challenges that require careful coordination. Once resolved, the ramps will open, complementing the main bridge and improving traffic conditions along Pune’s western suburbs, which have long struggled with congestion.
