The iron footbridge over the Indrayani River lay mangled after collapsing under the weight of more than 125 people, mostly tourists out for a Sunday holiday.

Tragedy hit Pune’s Maval tehsil

Four people lost their lives when the old footbridge over the Indrayani River near Talegaon collapsed. District Collector Jitendra Dudi confirmed that 51 others were injured and receiving treatment at local hospitals.

NDRF personnel, police, local volunteers and fire brigade teams launched an urgent rescue mission, using cranes and cutters to extract those trapped beneath the fallen structure.

Bodies of the deceased, including a 5-year-old boy, were recovered from the wreckage. One person remained missing as search efforts continued.

Relatives of victims and local residents gathered in shock near the collapsed site, demanding answers and accountability for the preventable tragedy, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis announced Rs 5 lakh as financial assistance to the families of those who lost their lives.
