PMC, Maha Metro to begin joint inspections ahead of work on six-lane elevated road & Metro viaduct on Nagar Road
Pune: The PMC along with Maha Metro has started preparations for construction of a six-lane elevated road and Metro viaduct on Nagar Road in the Ramwadi to Wagholi patch, while holding joint inspections along the entire stretch starting today (March 6). Authorities will review proposed designs of the 4.7km-long six-lane elevated road, alignment of the Metro viaduct and locations of Metro stations, as well as available spaces for their entry-exit points along the entire stretch.
The project is expected to be a major infrastructure development for the busy Nagar Road area. Maha Metro's detailed project report (DPR) has proposed four Metro stations (Vimannagar, Somnathnagar, Kharadi Bypass and Tuljabhavani) on the entire stretch. This will also be the first six-lane elevated road in the city stretching more than 4km. Local residents and frequent travellers on Nagar Road have already raised apprehensions about project execution, and have urged the authorities to come up with a proper plan focusing on traffic management during the construction work.Maha Metro last week initiated the tendering process to appoint an agency to construct the elevated road and viaduct.A civic official told TOI, choosing anonymity, "As Maha Metro has decided to go ahead with the tendering process to appoint an agency for the construction work, a decision has been taken to take up joint inspections of the entire route till Wagholi before actual work begins. Joint inspections scheduled from Friday will focus on clearing doubts and loopholes. Inspections will help reduce possible complications that may have to be faced during the construction."PMC has proposed the provision of ramps to the elevated road at Kharadi Bypass and at two more locations to help commuters for entry and exit. The administration also wants Maha Metro to set aside adequate spaces near Metro stations for movement of vehicles and pedestrians.Similar inspections in Hadapsar soonMeanwhile, PMC has planned similar inspections jointly with Maha Metro in Hadapsar, where an elevated road along with a Metro viaduct are proposed ahead of Bhairoba Nala Chowk. PMC officials said that these inspections will be taken up in the next few days, too, and the exact schedule is being finalised. The Metro line on Hadapsar Road is proposed till Loni Kalbhor.
