PIMPRI CHINCHWAD: The civic body in Pimpri Chinchwad is working on a pilot project of 'city health action plan' in collaboration with the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (Unicef).
The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has set up a ward and city health action task force, which will look into medical requirements of the population. The pilot project guidelines will then be replicated across various municipal corporations in the state, an official said.
"We had a discussion with officials of the state health department and Unicef to improve our infrastructure through preventive methods. We want to improve our overall health infrastructure across all wards by including other departments as well. This is going to be a collaborative effort. The National Institute of Urban Affairs has also shown interest in replicating the said model not only in Maharashtra but in other urban bodies across the country. The Unicef will also offer guidance on various aspects of health policies," PCMC commissioner, Shekhar Singh, said.
PCMC medical officer Laxman Gophane told TOI, "The project will include medical infrastructure mapping, survey of vulnerable population etc. It will also include collaboration with other civic departments and improving the functionality of the proposed and available medical units."
