Night patrolling to stop outsiders from dumping trash in PCMC limits

Night patrolling to stop outsiders from dumping trash in PCMC limits
Pimpri Chinchwad: The civic body has started patrolling garbage bins in Chinchwad at night to prevent outsiders from dumping waste in the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) limits.
The initiative was started after BJP corporator Sheetal Shinde on Sunday caught a tempo red-handed in Chinchwad while emptying waste from a Hinjewadi hotel. A civic official said a police complaint had been lodged on Tuesday at the Chinchwad police station regarding the dumping of the hotel waste.
Shinde said, “I had been receiving complaints from morning walkers about a foul odour emanating from garbage bins in many parts of the ward.

So, around 10 to 12 volunteers began patrolling the ward on two-wheelers to find out why this was happening. We found that the garbage bins were being filled up late at night with hotel waste and other garbage by people from outside the PCMC limits. We intensified the patrolling and were lucky enough to catch a van while trying to dump garbage on Sunday.”
Mangesh Chitale, assistant commissioner and Zone A officer, said, “We have formed a four-member squad, comprising a sanitary inspector and three conservancy staff, for patrolling the garbage bins from Tuesday night. Those found dumping garbage from outside the city will face strict action.”
