Pune: The Loni Kalbhor police are investigating a 34-year-old woman’s complaint accusing a family of four of duping her of Rs35 lakh by promising her a job in the
income tax department in the city.
The woman also alleged that when she approached the family on April 17 to get her money back, the main suspect threatened and outraged her modesty.
Assistant inspector
Kishore Patil on Wednesday said, “The woman became friends with the main suspect in 2019.
The suspect lured her to make an investment in a construction firm to earn a profit.”
Patil said, “The victim, who comes from a farming background, borrowed money and even mortgaged gold jewellery to arrange for Rs35 lakh. However, she failed to get any returns. She then told the suspect to repay her money, but he sought time on some pretext or the other. He then told her he would help her secure a job in the Income Tax department.”
When she met the suspect at his home, he and three others threatened to kill her and her husband. They also issued threats to strip her. The main suspect twisted her hand, warning her not to visit his house again, she told the cops.
