Pune: A city-based NGO, Trisharan Enlightenment Foundation, has concluded its campaign about the importance of signatures in tribal villages in Gadchiroli district.
The NGO, in association with Lloyds Metals & Energy Ltd., conducted the campaign in the densely forested tribal villages of Etapalli taluka in Gadchiroli district. The villagers were informed about the importance of signatures and how problems arose due to a lack of the ability to sign.
Pragya Waghmare, director, Trisharan Foundation, said, "We must make sure that women are not oppressed or cheated because of a lack of knowledge. Atrocities against tribals can be reduced if each individual has education, and the ability to sign is the first step. If a mother learns, the whole family learns. If the family learns, it will definitely benefit the village.” This project is being implemented on a pilot basis in 21 villages around the Surjagad iron ore project.
Shubham Gupta, IAS, sub-divisional officer, Etapalli, inaugurated the initiative at Petha village. He said, "Any kind of education is always beneficial, and no matter what the kind of learning, it is never wasted."
