pune: if you love your drink, you better take your fill or stock your bar before april 1, when owners of hotels, bars and liquor shops in the city go on strike to protest against the steep hike in license fees. while owners of 864 bars and permit rooms will resort to an indefinite strike, wine shops will be closed for three days - from april 1 to 3.
the city’s restaurants, including fast-food joints and dining halls, too have decided to extend support to agitating permit-room owners by observing a day’s token strike on april 1. ravi shetty, secretary of the pune khadya-peya vikreta sangh told times news network that the sangh had called a joint meeting of all hotel and restaurant owners on march 31 to ensure that the bandh call evokes total response. vinayak tambe of the district country liquor shop-owners’ association said that the association might resort to an indefinite strike if the government failed to take the note of its protests.
