PUNE: A single-storey house was gutted in a massive fire at the Ambedkarnagar slums near Market Yard on Sunday morning. Parvin Salim Shaikh (60), who was preparing food in the house, escaped unhurt as she ran out of the house immediately after the fire broke out.
The Pune fire brigade personnel doused the fire with the help of two fire tenders and two tankers.

Pune fire brigade station officer Sanjay Ramteke said that the fire broke out around 9.30 am. Shaikh was alone in the house at the time. As soon as the fire broke out, she ran out and alerted her neighbours.
The residents of the Ambedkarnagar slums alerted the fire brigade and started pouring water on the fire. When the fire brigade reached the spot, the fire had spread over the entire house. "We poured water from all four sides of the house and restricted the fire from spreading to neighbouring houses," Ramteke said.
The fire brigade managed to control the fire in 10 minutes. and doused it completely in an hour, said a resident.
In May 2010, a major fire had gutted around 350 hutments at the Ambedkarnagar slums. A four-year-old girl had suffocated to death in the incident. The fire had rendered several residents of Ambedkarnagar homeless.
