PUNE: Two labourers were killed and four suffered severe injuries in a gelatin sticks blast inside a well at Surwad village on Indapur-Akluj road, about 150km from here, on Wednesday afternoon.
The blast occurred when workers had entered the well to remove silt. The Indapur police said that the deceased labourers are Kantilal Shinde (35), of Shetphal village in Haveli taluka and Krishna Bhosale (50), of Indapur.. The injured Mahadev Patale, Maruti Chougule, Nitin Shinde and Haridas Shinde are being treated at private hospital in Akluj. Haridas Shinde's condition is critical, police said.
M D Shinde, inspector of the Indapur police station, said the silt removal work in Surwad gram panchyat's well had been on for the last few days. "On Tuesday, the contractor had used gelatin sticks to explode bedrocks while removing the silt," Shinde said.
He added that when six workers enetered the well on Wednesday, the unexploded sticks from the previous day burst.
There were two blasts inside the well. The impact was such that two labourers were killed on the spot, while four sustained severe injuries. "The injured were immediately rushed to a private hospital at Akluj," Shinde said. Shinde said that the process of registering offence is on. "We will book the persons responsible for these blasts," Shinde said.
