PUNE: A three-day documentary film festival is to be held at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) from September 15 to 17. Persistence Resistance' has been organised by FTII in association with Delhi-based Magic Lantern Foundation, a non-profit organisation that works in the field of media and human rights.
The focus will be on contemporary political films by filmmakers such as Shyamal Karmakar, Paromita Vohra, Sherna Dastur, T Jayasree, Madhusree Dutta, Farjid Nabi, Reena Mohan, R V Ramani, Amar Kanwar, Meena Nanji, Shabani Hassanwalia, Samreen Farooqui, Mamta Murthy and Vipin Vijay.
Some 35 documentaries will be screened at the FTII's main theatre and preview theatres.
Films from foreign film-makers like Simon Chambers (UK), Roz Mortimer and Meena Nanji (USA), Nadia Kamel (Egypt), Kesang Tseten (Nepal), Yasmine Kabir (Bangladesh) and Farjad Nabi (Pakistan) will also be screened.
Seminars to be held during the three-day festival include topics like Independent Cinema in the Globalised world: Challenges and Possibilities,' The Cinematic Subject: Gaze, Voyeurism and Eco-Political Legitimacy' and Reality and Representation: Responsibilities/Scripting for the 'real' or anticipating the future'.
