PUNE: Films made by students of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) bagged two national awards at the 59th National Film Awards, which were declared on Wednesday.
Gautam Nair won the Rajat Kamal for best audiography for the film 'One, Two' (directed by Prantik Basu). 'Airawat', directed by
Renu Savant, was honoured with a special mention certificate.
A statement issued by the institute on Wednesday said that "One, Two" is the story of two passengers during an overnight bus journey, confiding in each other and sharing their story of a woman who affected their lives in different ways. As one story leads to the other, we realize that the same woman with her parrot is traveling in both stories, yet emerging as two different characters as portrayed by the two men.
Airawat is the story of a girl and the lane in which she lives, on which she keeps a watch through her window. Two girls in the lane exchange gossip, an old woman can smell the sea, and a boy tries futilely, to run away from home. In the background,
Rakesh Sharma, the first Indian astronaut takes off into space. A big elephant is going to come into the narrow lane - is this reality or an imagined element of excitement in a mundane lane?
Dreams are, in a way, a refuge. The desires and dreams of characters in this film intersect as the hopes of a fading society and the space under the window becomes that space of dream and of nightmare, the statement said.
