Father of 'kidnapped' woman booked for giving false information

The Kothrud police on Tuesday booked Nayansukh Gandhi (58) and his wife Shashikala (54) of Rambaug colony for giving false information to the police regarding the kidnapping of their daughter for a ransom of Rs 50 lakh.

PUNE: The Kothrud police on Tuesday booked Nayansukh Gandhi (58) and his wife Shashikala (54) of Rambaug colony for giving false information to the police regarding the kidnapping of their daughter for a ransom of Rs 50 lakh.
Sub-inspector A D Walimbe of the Kothrud police station has lodged a complaint in this regard. The couple has been booked under section 182 of the Indian Penal Code, giving false information with intent to cause a public servant to use his lawful power to the injury of another person.
On Friday evening, Gandhi had approached the Kothrud police, saying that his daughter had been kidnapped by Gajendra Jankiram Nagewar, for a ransom of Rs.

50 lakh. The crime branch took swift action and within 12 hours had traced Gandhi's daughter to Parbhani. However, she said that she had not been kidnapped and had willingly gone to Parbhani with Gajendra, who was her husband.
Sub-inspector Walimbe told TOI, "During investigation it was revealed that Gandhi was against the marriage and made a false complaint in order to harass Nagewar."
"We have filed a non-cognizable offence in this regard and booked Gandhi and his wife," he added.
