Pune:The court of additional sessions judge Hitendra Wani in Baramati convicted and sentenced a 40-year-old farmer to two years rigorous imprisonment, for assaulting a revenue circle officer inside a govt office in Patas on Aug 14, 2019, over a mutation entry dispute. The court later released the convict on bail to enable him to file an appeal before a higher court.
The prosecution's case was that a dispute arose after the circle officer approved a mutation entry in favour of another individual following the lapse of an appeal period. The accused confronted the officer, allegedly abused him, caught hold of his shirt collar and tore documents lying on his table.
The court dismissed the defence argument of no medical examination, holding that the absence of medical examination was not material as no injury was claimed. It also said that non-examination of independent witnesses was not fatal to the case as the complainant's testimony was "consistent, cogent and trustworthy, and could be relied upon."
