Pune: Political and constitutional experts on Thursday brushed aside the “one nation, one election” idea floated by the central government, arguing that the proposal was unconstitutional. At a seminar, the speakers — including political analyst Suhas Palshikar and constitutional expert Ulhas Bapat — said that the “cost-saving” rationale of those pushing for the idea does not hold water. “First of all, complaining about the expenses required to organize an election in a democracy is just wrong. It indicates that democracy is of no value, so one might as well spend little on it,” Palshikar said. tNN
