Delivery person held in nursing job scam, third suspect in net
Pune: A 39-year-old delivery person was arrested from Chinchwad on Tuesday in connection with a Rs1.33-crore nursing job fraud case in which over 15 women were duped.
The delivery person is the third suspect arrested for duping women with the promise of nursing jobs in state govt hospitals. Inspector Chandrashekhar Yadav of the Baramati taluka police said, “We arrested him when he came to Chinchwad to meet his wife. He was remanded in police custody for six days. “We earlier arrested two accused, one from Yerawada in Pune and another from Daund.”
A 35-year-old nurse working with a private hospital in Baramati had lodged a complaint in March in connection with the job fraud. A police case was registered against six people.
Inspector Yadav said one of the accused approached the complainant in 2023 and told her that he would help her and her friends secure jobs of nurses in govt hospitals. He allegedly demanded Rs8 lakh for each aspirant and assured her of jobs within a month.
The nurse of Baramati private hospital and others transferred money to the accused through bank transactions or in cash. “In 2024, the accused sent them appointment letters. He even called them to Mumbai under the pretext of document verification,” inspector Yadav said.
According to the complainant, the accused took more money from her and other job aspirants citing different reasons. The accused gave them joining letters in May last year.
After the complainant and others realised that the appointment letters were fake, they demanded their money back. The police complaint was lodged when the job aspirants did not get their money back, inspector Yadav said.
