Culinary students cook up sweet success

The students of the All India Shri Shivaji Memorial Society's College of Hotel Management and Catering Technology distinguished themselves at the recently-held Chandiwala Hospitality Ensemble, 2009, bagging two winners and runners-up trophies.

The students of the All India Shri Shivaji Memorial Society's College of Hotel Management and Catering Technology distinguished themselves at the recently-held Chandiwala Hospitality Ensemble, 2009, bagging two winners and runners-up trophies. While Hemant Salvi and Chinmay Karve won the winners trophy in the sugar-free dessert competition, the Giltedge Culinary Competition (chocolate and saffron syrup), apart from a runners-up trophy in the MDH Culinary Challenge.

In the Susta Culinary Wizard and Golden Cown and Monte Regale Culinary Competitions, Rakesh Jana and Viraj Late won two runners-up trophies. Chetan Chandratre won the runners-up trophy in the F&B service round which tested their knowledge of the menu. While Yukti Thukral bagged another runners-up in the floral decoration competition with her "global warming" theme.
Hotel management activity week
With the new avenues opening in the hospitality industry every day, the need for specialised staff is becoming more apparent. Keeping this in mind, the All India Shri Shivaji Memorial Society's College of Hotel Management and Catering Technology has organised an activity week between October 26 and 30. Atithya 2009,' will thus provide a common platform for hospitality students to enhance their skills and technical knowledge. Workshops ranging from wine appreciation, flair bartending, paper quilling, chocolate making to food styling will be oganised, giving students a chance to interact with experts from the industry. Inter-collegiate competitions will give students a chance to pit their skills, and the week will culminate in a seminar on Employee empowerment leading to customer satisfaction.'
Business & media seminar
The International School of Business & Media (ISB&M), Pune, is set to organise Chain Act 09, a one-day conference on Supply Chain and Operations Management on November 8 at ISB&M Auditorium, Nande Village, Pune, a press note said. The theme of Chain Act 09' is Supply chain integration: The future?'

A different DiwaliDiwali, the festival of lights, this year was celebrated by department of management of the Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth in a different way. The department celebrated the event on the first day of Diwali with the labour workers and their families at the construction site in the Vidyapeeth. They distributed sweets, snacks, crackers and lanterns to the workers and the children. The idea behind the activity was to inculcate a sense of social consciousness among the students. The department distributed Diwali snacks with many sweets along with crackers, lanterns and colourful bright gifts and toys. The students of the management department participated with great enthusiasm. They had planned and organised the entire activity. Faculty members Divija Yerande, Poonam Rawat, Meetali More, Nirali Shah, Girija Patki and Anjali Vyas, took special efforts to make the event a success, a note said.
