Bishop’s School seeks legal action against protesters at Undri campus on April 15
Pune: The Bishop's Education Society issued a circular to parents on Friday and said it had identified a group of individuals and others for alleged trespass, disruption and privacy violations at its Undri campus, following an internal inquiry into the protest over fees on April 15. The management had initiated civil and criminal proceedings against those involved. The school described the April 15 incident as a serious breach of protocol. On the said day, a small group of parents and some unidentified people entered the Undri school campus without authorisation and assembled outside the counselling department and main office. They created a ruckus over the increase in fees. The school said the issue directly interfered with its functioning and created a hostile atmosphere for students.During the protest, parents claimed that the recent fee hike was unauthorised and lacked transparency. They claimed the increase amounted to nearly 47%, instead of 15%. The protesters also complained of overcrowded classrooms and lack of consultation with parents, demanding a rollback.Meanwhile, the circular said: "The aggressive and unwarranted behaviour had a distressing impact. Children attending counselling sessions were particularly affected as the disruption took place just outside the room."The management also flagged unauthorised recording and circulation of videos. It alleged that footage of the principal and staff was recorded without consent and shared on media platforms with the intent to harm and defame the institution's reputation. The education society said student safety and privacy are non-negotiable and strict legal action was warranted. "We have identified the people at fault after internal investigation. Consequently, civil and criminal proceedings have been initiated. We intend to pursue the matter to the fullest extent of the law," the circular said.In response to the incident, the school has tightened entry and grievance protocols across all its campuses. It has restricted access without prior appointments, directed that all concerns be raised only through official communication channels. The management has warned that any future instance of unauthorised assembly, protest, threatening behaviour or non-consensual recording would invite immediate police action. The management also said it values cooperation from parents and stressed the need to maintain a safe and stable environment for students.
