"She tested positive for NS-1 Elisa dengue test during her admission to the first hospital itself," said a doctor from Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital (DMH). Sutar succumbed to dengue shock syndrome with multi-organ failure around 8.30pm on Monday.

. So if people have symptoms like nose or gum bleeding, frequent vomiting, vomiting with blood, black stool, abdominal pain and difficulty in breathing, they should immediately consult a doctor," said internal medicine expert Abhijit Joshi of the Joshi Hospital.
Dengue virus causes self-resolving dengue fever in most cases, characterized by severe body ache, retro-orbital (pain behind eye) headache and at times rash, abdominal pain and nausea.
In addition to robust systems for surveillance and response, an important part of the effort against dengue is community action. This includes participation of people to understand how to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes near their houses and the importance of early treatment.
