More than one lakh voters removed from Puducherry electoral rolls after SIR
PUDUCHERRY: More than one lakh voters of the 10.21 lakh voters enrolled as on Oct 27 have been removed after the first phase of special intensive revision (SIR) in the Union territory of Puducherry, said a press note from the chief electoral officer. The chief electoral office published the draft electoral rolls on Dec 16.
Presently, there are 9.18 lakh voters in the Union territory. Booth-wise copies of the draft electoral rolls, both printed and digital versions, have been given to the representatives of recognised political parties and have been uploaded on the CEO’s website ceopuducherry.py.gov.in.
SIR statistics revealed that 80,645 voters, who have either shifted to other states or who are not available in their houses, and 20,798 voters who have died and 2,024 voters, who have enrolled in multiple places, have been removed from the electoral rolls. A total of 1,03,467 voters have been removed from the electoral rolls.
Booth-wise lists of absent/ shifted/ death/ duplicate electors whose names are not included in the draft roll will be displayed on the notice board of respective local body offices and Offices of the BDOs to enable the electors to know the reasons for non-inclusion of their names in the electoral rolls. These lists will also be uploaded to the CEO’s website.
Genuine electors can still enrol themselves in the electoral rolls during the claims and objections period from Dec 16 to Jan 15.
The CEO said young electors, who attained or who will attain 18 years of age on or before Jan 1, 2026, can enrol by filling up Form 6 along with the prescribed declaration form. Special campaigns would be held across Puducherry on two weekends. The dates will be announced soon, said the press note.
