Man gets 20 years rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting girl in Puducherry

PUDUCHERRY: A fast-track court in Puducherry on Monday sentenced a 67-year-old tricycle puller to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl.

Judge M D Sumathi also sentenced the man, identified as Anthonie alias Gururaj, to one year of imprisonment for wrongfully confining the girl and imposed a fine of Rs 11,000 on him

The judge awarded a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the minor survivor.

According to special public prosecutor S Patcheappan, the tricycle puller noticed the girl playing near his daughter’s house on Aug 17, 2021. He enticed her with chocolates and took her to his daughter’s house, where he confined her in a secluded place and sexually assaulted her.

The Odiansalai police booked him under sections 6 (punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, 2012, and Section 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement) of the Indian Penal Code and arrested him.
