VILLUPURAM: Villupuram prohibition enforcement wing (PEW) officials seized 767 Puducherry-made IMFL bottles worth Rs 75,000 during a surprise vehicle-check at Kakuppam village on Friday.
Based on a tip, Villupurm PEW officials stopped an autorickshaw at Kakuppam village close to the armed reserve police wing headquarters for inspection. The vehicle was heading towards Chennai highway taking a shortcut route.
Seeing the cops, two among the three people in the autorickshaw fled the spot.
But the officials managed to detain the driver. The accused were trying to smuggle the IMFL bottles into Tiruvanamalai from
Puducherry.
Officials identified the autorickshaw driver as Rajadurai, 28, of Chetpet taluk in Tiruvannamalai district. Villupurm PEW officials detained Rajadurai and seized the IMFL bottles along with the autorickshaw. A case has been registered and a search is on to nab the absconding accused.
