BHAGALPUR: Governor-cum-chancellor Lalji Tandon conferred coveted degrees upon as many as 1,548 passouts of the last examinations from different streams of postgraduate courses besides research scholars of Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University (TMBU), on the occasion of 45th convocation ceremony held at TNB College stadium here on Tuesday.
Out of 1,548 successful postgraduate students and research scholars during the session 2015-2017 and 2016-2018, who were awarded certificates and medals, 30 postgraduates from 2015-2017 and 28 from 2016-2018 session received gold medals and certificate of merit from the Chancellor during the ceremony.
While 14 gold medals were given to toppers of vocational courses, 14 memorial gold medals and four gold medals were given to overall toppers and two donor medals were also conferred to the students by the Chancellor.
Five research scholars–Dr Shankar Lal Gupta, Dr Sudhanshu Shekhar, Dr Mrityunjay Singh Ganga, Dr Jaishankar Thakur and Dr Harihar Das were awarded DLitt degree, the highest in academic arena by the Chancellor.
Earlier, the governor was given guard of honour on his arrival.
The governor while talking about the objectives of education, said, “It is very important for students to be educated and employable but, it is equally important to build character and positive personality and use their knowledge and skills in serving the society.”
TMBU VC Dr L C Saha said, “Despite resource constraints students excel due to their hard-work, merit and able guidance of teachers here.”
Present on the occasion were Director IIT-(Patna) Prof Pushpak Bhattacharya, Pro-VC Prof Ramyatan Prasad, DSW Prof Yogendra, proctor Bilakshan Ravidas, registrar Arun Kumar Singh, besides other university officials, teachers senate and syndicate members in a large number.
