Patna: Unidentified criminal shot dead one Chhotu Vishwakarma (26) while he was sleeping with his friend in his house's courtyard at Mahammadpur village under Haspura police station area in Aurangabad district early Sunday morning.
Upon getting the news, a number of villagers gathered at Chhotu's house and informed the ‘Dial-112' team about the incident. The body was sent to a govt hospital for an autopsy.
Police said the incident occurred while Chhotu was sleeping on a cot with his friend, Shrikant Yadav, while an elderly villager was also asleep nearby. Around midnight, the elderly man and Shrikant were awakened by the sound of gunfire and they saw Chhotu writhing in pain with a bullet wound on his temple.
Chhotu was rushed to the Haspura community health centre. The doctors there referred him to an advanced medical centre for better treatment. However, Chhotu succumbed to his injuries en route to Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital (ANMMCH) in Gaya.
Haspura SHO, Dinesh Kumar, said: "The exact reason for the killing is not clear. An FSL team visited the village to collect evidence. A formal complaint has been filed at the police station based on a written application by the deceased's brother, Ravi Ranjan Sharma, who has accused unidentified individuals of shooting his brother."
Aurangabad superintendent of police (SP), Ambrish Rahul, visited the village to investigate the case. A special investigation team has been formed under the leadership of Daudnagar SDPO to probe into the case.
