The deceased was identified as Anil Kushwaha, son of Congress Kushwaha, a resident of Mohanpur village.
His body was found lying in a wheat field located some distance away from the village. After local residents spotted the body, a large crowd gathered at the site.
Kateya SHO Omprakash Chauhan said the forensic process had been initiated. “The FSL team inspected the crime scene and initiated the process of sending the body to Sadar Hospital for post-mortem. There were no signs of external injuries on the body. The exact cause of death will be clear only after the post-mortem report comes,” he said.
He added that the allegations made by the family were being examined. “The family of the deceased alleged that the woman called Anil and her family strangled him to death and then threw the body in the field. One suspect from the woman’s family was taken into custody for questioning based on the complaint filed by the deceased’s family,” the SHO said.
Police said after the suspect was detained, a crowd attempted to free him and assaulted him. To prevent further violence, police temporarily kept the suspect in a nearby house, which was soon surrounded by the crowd from all sides.
“The situation was controlled by persuading the crowd. The suspect was later safely taken to the police station, where he is being interrogated,” the SHO said.
