Patna: A 21-year-old unmarried woman involved in a romantic relationship with a youth climbed a high-voltage power transmission tower in the bordering area of Darbhanga-Samastipur district and threatened to jump if her boyfriend refused to marry her. The woman also threatened to touch the live wires if her demands were not met. The incident occurred in the Singhia police station area of Samastipur on Thursday.
Upon receiving information about the incident, a large crowd gathered at the site. The youth involved in the relationship was called to the scene, and upon seeing him, the woman became emotional. Despite efforts to calm her, she refused to come down. The youth tried to reassure her, promising to marry her and urging her to descend. The Dial 112 team arrived at the scene and, with the help of locals, safely brought the woman down from the tower.
Singhia SHO Shyam Kumar said, “The woman climbed dangerously close to a live wire on a pole and began shouting loudly to call her boyfriend. She threatened to jump off the tower. Seeing this, a large crowd gathered at the scene. The police reached the site, but the woman refused to come down. She kept calling for her boyfriend and threatened to end her life if he refused to marry her.
This caused chaos in the village for hours, and her family was extremely worried.”
Meanwhile, her boyfriend was called to the scene. On seeing him, the woman became even more agitated. After he promised to marry her, she calmed down. A young man from the village bravely climbed the tower and reached the woman, managing to persuade her to come down. Only then did everyone breathe a sigh of relief, including the police.
“The police then took both the boyfriend and girlfriend into custody for questioning. Both belong to the same community. They were handed over to the family after questioning. The woman and her 25-year-old boyfriend are residents of Darbhanga, but the pole is located in Samastipur, so the district police handled the situation,” Singhia SHO added.
