Wanted criminal injured during police encounter in Nawada
Patna: A wanted criminal on the police’s top-10 list, carrying a reward of Rs50,000, was arrested after a brief encounter with police in the Roh police station area of Nawada district on Sunday morning. The accused, identified as Tinku Yadav, son of Nageshwar Yadav and a resident of Nawadih village under the Lachhuar police station area in Jamui district, was shot in the left leg during the operation and taken into custody.According to police, a team from Roh police station received information that Tinku was planning to commit a major crime at Koshi village. Acting on the tip-off, the station house officer, along with a police team, rushed to the spot for verification and necessary action.Superintendent of police (SP) Abhinav Dhiman said that as the police vehicle approached the area, two youths riding separate motorcycles spotted the team and attempted to flee. “When the police tried to stop them, one of the youths pulled out a weapon from his waist and fired two rounds at the officers. In self-defence, the police team retaliated with two controlled and restrained rounds. One bullet hit the fleeing motorcyclist in the left leg, causing him to fall,” the SP said.
Taking advantage of the situation, the second youth managed to escape on his motorcycle. The injured man was immediately apprehended and identified as Tinku Yadav. Dhiman said Tinku is a prime accused in a case registered at Roh police station related to the brutal murder of Ashok Mistri. “In that case, a group of criminals allegedly slit the victim’s throat as part of a conspiracy and later burned the body to destroy evidence. Police teams were conducting raids at multiple locations to arrest him, and a reward of Rs50,000 had been announced for information leading to his arrest,” he added. The SP said the accused is undergoing medical treatment and that a detailed investigation into the entire incident and his criminal activities is underway. Police have also launched a manhunt to trace the escaped accomplice and are probing whether there was a larger conspiracy linked to the accused’s planned criminal activity in the area.
