W Champaran to get Rs121-cr biogas plant

Patna: In a major push for green energy and sustainable industrial development, a modern compressed biogas (CBG) plant will be established at the Industrial Area, Kumarbagh, in West Champaran with an investment of about Rs 121 crore.

The project is expected to strengthen the production of clean and renewable energy in Bihar while boosting industrial activity and local economic growth.

The approval was granted at a meeting of the project clearance committee (PCC) of the Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority (Biada) held on Thursday under the chairmanship of industries department secretary Kundan Kumar. The committee cleared proposals related to the allotment of land and plug-and-play sheds to eligible applicants in various industrial areas across the state.

As part of the approvals, Bharat GPS Bioenergy Pvt Ltd received permission to establish the CBG plant at Kumarbagh.

The proposed facility will be developed on around 15 acres of land. According to an industries department release, the plant will generate clean energy through the scientific utilisation of agricultural residue and organic waste, contributing to both environmental protection and energy security.

The project is expected to create around 370 direct and indirect employment opportunities. It will also provide farmers with an avenue to earn additional income from agricultural residue that often goes unused.

Industries minister Shreyasi Singh said the state govt remained committed to promoting green energy and environmentally sustainable industries. She said projects such as CBG plants would open new avenues for sustainable development, clean energy generation and employment creation.

Kundan said Bihar was providing investors with robust infrastructure, transparent procedures and investor-friendly policies. He said investments in the green energy sector would not only accelerate industrial growth but also make a significant contribution to environmental sustainability and local employment generation.
