Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Thursday conducted a training session at its headquarters to familiarise bulk waste generators with the mandatory registration process on the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) portal, in line with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, and Supreme Court directives on waste management compliance.
Representatives from 35 hospitals, hotels and commercial establishments attended the programme, which featured demonstrations by experts from GIZ and the CPCB. Participants were guided on navigating the centralised portal, registration on which is compulsory for premises generating 100kg or more waste daily, consuming 40,000 litres of water per day, or having a built-up area of 20,000 sqm.
Officials stressed that registration is free but mandatory for all institutional, commercial and residential bulk generators. After submission, details will be verified through on-site inspections by municipal teams.
The PMC also highlighted penalties for non-compliance, stating that failure to register could attract fines ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 25,000 per violation, along with possible suspension of waste collection services and further legal action.
So far, the civic body has identified 53 bulk waste generators and said the survey will continue to bring all eligible entities under the compliance framework.
