PATNA: Two students were injured in an alleged group clash that took place in the premises of Patna College on Wednesday morning, while three rounds of firing took place. The police have detained two persons. Strangely, the incident took place in front of the police picket at the Patna College, but police failed to control the situation right then.

The two injured students - Neeraj Kumar and Raja Kumar - are being treated at the PMCH. Neeraj is a second year student of political science and is a boarder of Jackson hostel while Raja Kumar is a second year student of history and is a boarder of Minto hostel. Raja told media persons that on Wednesday around 11am after class, he along with Neeraj were going to the geography department to drink some water. "As soon as we were crossing the police picket located at the Patna College premises, a group of around 12 boys attacked us. They started beating us. When we tried to ran away from them, they started hitting my head with bricks. They also fired at Neeraj when he was running away. There was nobody at the police picket when the incident took place. Only after the firing when other students started gathering, the group of miscreants fled from the spot.”

Neeraj was operated upon at the PMCH as he received two bullets in his waist. Neeraj’s family which stays at Supaul was informed about the incident.
Raja further added, “On Tuesday, we went to a coaching centre owned by one Ramesh Singh at Makhaniakuan and asked him for some concession on tuition fees for the students. But he refused. He has good connection with the boarders of Saidpur hostel and flaunted to us that he would tell the boarders of Saidpur hostel that we asked for concession. We had an altercation over the issue with him. We do not have idea whether the attack was the consequence of the incident or not.”

However, other students of Patna College believe that it was a revenge act of Saidpur hostel boarders as police conducted raid in July acting on the complaint lodged by the Minto and Jackson hostel boarders regarding a violence that took place at Darbhanga house.

Patna SSP Manu Maharaaj said, “Two persons including Ramesh have been detained and we have got the CCTV footage of adjoining areas to identify the miscreants. Whatever the reason is, nobody would be spared. We will also look into the matter that why no policemen were present at the police picket of Patna College.”
