Two kids die after woman jumps into well in Jamui
Patna: A woman with her three children jumped into a well after an alleged dispute with her husband in Jamui’s Sono police station area late Thursday night.
Two children died by drowning, while the woman and another child were rescued by the villagers. The incident occurred in Chhapardih village. The bodies were sent for the postmortem, and further investigation is underway, police said.
The deceased were identified as Amir Ansari (5) and Anish Khatoon (8), while the woman was identified as Rubesha Khatoon (32), wife of Shamsher Ansari.
Sono SHO Dharmendra Kumar said, “The woman allegedly had a dispute with her husband over the phone, who works in Surat (Gujarat). The couple lived separately from their in-laws and had their own house. On the evening of the incident, the woman had a quarrel with her mother-in-law over property issues, and her husband supported his mother. After the quarrel, the husband allegedly told the woman to ‘go and die’. The woman then took her three children and left the house.”
The villagers said that the woman threw her children into the well one by one and then jumped herself. The villagers rushed to the spot and rescued the woman and one child, but two kids died in the incident.
The bodies of the two children were recovered from the well, and the woman and the surviving child were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The police registered an unnatural death (UD) case and started a probe into the incident. The woman’s husband is on his way back to Jamui from Surat after receiving the news of the incident.
However, the woman’s father-in-law, Mohammad Multaz, claimed that the incident was an accident, and his granddaughter slipped and fell into the well while playing.
He also stated that his grandson jumped into the well to save his sister. However, the villagers gave a different version of the story, alleging that the woman intentionally threw her children into the well.
“The police are trying to determine the exact circumstances leading to the incident and are awaiting the postmortem report. The woman’s condition is stable, and the police will interrogate her once she is fit to talk,” the SHO added.
