PATNA: Police killed two notorious criminals, Kapil Yadav and Chhabila Nonia, in two separate encounters in Nalanda and Patna districts late on Monday night.
Nalanda police killed Kapil Yadav at Hussaina village under the Sarmera police station. "Kapil was wanted in at least 30 cases of murder, loot, dacoity and kidnapping. He was considered to be a terror in several districts including Nawada, Sheikhpura, Nalanda and Ghoshbari area of Patna.
He was also wanted in Sheikhpura carnage case," Nalanda SP Amit Lodha told TOI on phone on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Patna IG A C Verma has rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.
In another incident, a Patna police team led by Khagaul officer-in-charge K Chandra killed notorious criminal Chhabila Nonia in Nayanchak locality of Khagaul police station. According to Chandra, police rushed to the spot after the receipt of a report about criminals'' presence in Nayanchak locality. "We saw the criminals who were busy in looting the passengers travelling by Tata Sumo vehicle parked near the spot.
The criminals opened fire on the police while taking shelter in the backyard of the vehicle. We retaliated and killed one of the criminals. He has been identified as Chhabila Nonia," Chandra said. He said Chhabila was collecting extortion money from the businessmen of Khagaul, Phulwari, Danapur and Naubatpur areas of Patna district.
Giving the criminal antecedents of the deceased, Chandra said Chhabila was involved in the dacoity committed in the house of a college teacher in Shanti Ashram area of Khagaul. "He was a terror. I recently got an information about his demand for cash Rs 5,000 in form of Rangdari from a number of businessman in Danapur area. I contacted several traders and asked them to come to the police station to lodge an FIR. None dared to do so. Ultimately, I had to lodge a case against a few criminals including Chhabila on my own statement," Chandra said.
According to him, Chhabila was a sharp shooter of the Subhash Das alias Katorawa gang. "Subhash is now a physically challenged person after being injured in a bomb explosion. Chhabila was leading his gang," he said.
Meanwhile, Nalanda SP Lodha said Nalanda police was after Kapil since a long time. "I constituted a task force to nab him recently. We got information about Kapil''s movement in Sarmera police station area. Officer-in-charge of Sarmera Sanjay Kumar along with his team rushed to the area.
In a fierce encounter, the team killed Kapil and recovered a countrymade rifle from the spot. One criminal received bullet injuries in the encounter. "We are verifying the admission register of different hospitals and private nursing home to trace the injured criminal," Lodha said.
According to SP Nalanda, it was the fourth police encounter with criminals in Nalanda in the last three weeks.
