PATNA: Two women were killed and two others seriously injured when a speeding truck hit them while they were on a morning walk near Ghorghat Peer Dargah under the Sultanganj police station area in Bhagalpur district on Tuesday.

The victims were identified as Saraswati Devi (35) and Savita Devi (25), both residents of Gangania in Sultanganj. According to police, the truck was on way to Bhagalpur from Munger.

"The two women died on the spot. The two injured women - Puja Devi and Rupa Kumari - were rushed to Sultanganj Referral Hospital from where they were referred to Mayaganj Hospital after first aid," police said.

Enraged over the incident, locals blocked the NH-80 (Sultanganj-Munger main road) and demanded compensation to the family members of the deceased. Police later reached the spot and pacified the locals to lift the roadblock.

SHO of Sultanganj police station Priyaranjan said the truck driver was arrested.
