NAWADA: Commercial activities in Nawada town remained paralysed on Saturday following a voluntary bandh observed by traders to mourn the mass suicide of six family members of fruit vendor Kedar Lal Gupta on Thursday night.

All the shops, including jewellery, cloth, fruits-flowers and electronics, remained closed since morning.

The traders also took out a procession against the money lenders and demanded capital punishment to those who were responsible for the mass suicide. There was also resentment among the business community towards the public representatives as no leader from any political party turned up at the funeral of six bodies on Friday.

In another development, Shambhu Lal Gupta, brother of the Kedar Lal, on Friday lodged an FIR with the Town police station against seven money lenders whose relentless pressure for squeezing more and more money forced Kedar Lal, his wife, three daughters and son, to end their lives by consuming poison.

The police have arrested one culprit Tun Tun Singh and forwarded him to Nawada jail. The police have launched a manhunt to nab the remaining six accused namely Vikas Singh, Manish Singh, Pankaj Sinha, Ranjit Singh, Vinay Singh and Saurabh Singh.
