State govt to open degree colleges in 213 blocks: CM
Patna: CM Nitish Kumar on Wednesday announced that the state govt will open degree colleges in 213 blocks where no constituent or affiliated degree college exists, and it will also upgrade 55 old educational institutions into centres of excellence.
The state has 534 blocks, of which only 321 have degree colleges. While the decision to open a degree college in each of the 213 blocks is part of the Saat Nishchay-3 programme that the govt has adopted for implementation during the 2025-30 period, the CM said the teaching in these new colleges would begin from July this year.
“Under the Saat Nishchay-3 programme, the fourth resolve is ‘Unnat Shiksha – Ujjwal Bhavishya’ (developed education, bright future). As part of this, a decision has been taken to ensure that every block has a degree college so that higher education becomes easily accessible to all students, including girls,” the CM said on his social media platform on Wednesday.
“Even today, 213 of the 534 blocks do not have either a constituent or an affiliated college. Accordingly, we have issued the direction to open a degree college in each of the 213 blocks and also start teaching activities there from July this year in the first phase,” the CM added in his post.
As to the modernisation and revival of the old educational institutions, the post said, “A decision has also been taken to develop reputed educational institutions as centres of excellence.”
“Under this, 55 reputed educational institutions have been selected. For their renovation and development, the work is being done in a planned manner,” the post said, adding: “The directive has been issued to move forward on executing the plan after having consultation with their old experienced teachers and students and eliciting suggestions from them.”
“Once the degree colleges are established, they will ensure easier access to higher education, especially for girls. The development of reputed educational institutions into centres of excellence will help youth receive employment-oriented education, restore their glory, and contribute to the overall development of the state,” the post said.
