Sports achievers feted

Two girl students of R Jha Mahila College, Saharsa, who have excelled in para-jumping and mountaineering respectively, were honoured by vice-chancellor of B N Mandal University Dr R P Srivastav at the inaugural function of Inter College Chess Tournament (for girls only) held here on Monday.

SAHARSA: Two girl students of R Jha Mahila College, Saharsa, who have excelled in para-jumping and mountaineering respectively, were honoured by vice-chancellor of B N Mandal University Dr R P Srivastav at the inaugural function of Inter College Chess Tournament (for girls only) held here on Monday.
The two-day chess tournament was formally inaugurated by the VC's wife and the retired PG head of Hindi department in BR Ambedkar Bihar University, Muzaffarpur, Dr Kavita Srivastava.

While welcoming the guests, principal of the college Dr Shyama Rai informed that Nisha Kumari, a Class XII student, who has completed her month's training at the Air Force station at Agra, had brought laurels to the college by coming first at the national-level para jumping competition held there.
Similarly, a BA Part-I student of the college, Kshama Kumari, had shown her exemplary feat in mountaineering while undergoing a month-long mountaineering course at Darjeeling.
While addressing the participants and other students of the college, vice-chancellor Dr R P Srivastava congratulated both the students and urged the students to take part in the games seriously. He directed the sports officer of BNMU, Shailendra Kumar, to ensure better participation of the students and also to arrange proper coaching facilities in the colleges. He called upon the principals to generate a proper atmosphere for sports in their colleges so that the students of this university could perform at the state and national-level games.
