The critically injured police officer, a resident of Gaya district, succumbed to his injuries on way to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH).
Ravi Ranjan allegedly critically injured a co-villager, Uchit Yadav (with whom he had some land dispute), at village Bardiha under Nagarnausha police station area, on September 18. The accused was hiding at his home and as soon as the deceased police officer went inside, Ravi Ranjan fired several shots at him.
Incumbent Nagarnausha police station house officer D N Paswan said the police had mounted pressure on the accused to surrender. When he learnt that a request for the attachment of his property was being filed in the court by the police, he, through a counsel, surrendered before the court on Tuesday. He was sent to judicial custody for 15 days, said the police officer.
Hilsa DSP Pravendra Bharti said Ravi Ranjan had made an abortive attempt on the life of Uchit Yadav in 2011 as well. The same year, he was jailed for allegedly killing a minor boy. Bharti said the accused’s police remand will be sought within seven days. Police are also making efforts to identify his other accomplices.
