Schools told to hold classes from 6.30am

Patna: In view of prevailing scorching heat conditions, authorities in several districts, including Patna and Gaya, have asked government and private schools to hold academic activities between 6.30am and 11.30am.
Other districts where orders have been issued to run schools in morning shift include Rohtas, Samastipur, Jamui, Kaimur, Sitamarhi, Munger, Purnia, Supaul, Sheikhpura, Madhubani, Ara and West Champaran.
“All schools will run in morning shift from 6.30am to 11.30am from Monday onwards till the commencement of summer vacation. All government schools will ensure distribution of midday meal before 11.30am,” Patna district education officer Amit Kumar said.
Similarly, in the wake of rise in temperature, Gaya district education officer Rajdev Ram issued an order on Friday, asking schools – primary, secondary as well as higher secondary – to hold academic activities between 6.30am and 11.30am.
Parents and students have welcomed the decision. Kanchan Singh, mother of a Class V student of St Karen’s High School, Patna, said, “The new timing will give some relaxation as heatwave is severe this time. It’s very difficult for small children to step out in scorching heat.”
Divya Kumari, a Class X student of St Dominic Savio High School, said, “I am quite relaxed with the new timing. As I go to school on foot, I feel extremely hot while coming back. I will also get some additional time for study in daytime.”
