Sasaram: A road accident during a police raid in Rohtas district claimed the life of a youth and left a police constable seriously injured. The incident occurred under Ayarkotha police station area in Darihat while the police were acting on information related to illegal liquor trade.
According to official sources, Ayarkotha police got a tip-off that a 28-year-old youth, Rohit Kumar Pal, was allegedly involved in supplying liquor. The police intercepted Rohit while he was riding a scooter. To prevent him from fleeing, a constable Aftab Alam was made to sit on the scooter with him.

Pal reportedly lost control of the vehicle and rammed it into an electric pole. While Rohit died on the spot, the constable also sustained serious injuries. He was rushed to the trauma centre at sadar hospital in Sasaram.
Family members of Pal, whose marriage was scheduled on April 30, levelled serious allegations against the police over the circumstances of the accident. The sources said no liquor was recovered from the scooter of the deceased.
SP of Rohtas, Roshan Kumar, said the matter is being investigated by the ASP, Dehri. He stated that an official statement will be issued only after completion of the probe.
